Just a week later Disney dropped a lot of news about the future Star Wars projects, have unexpectedly announced a new spin-off in the Mandalorian timeline.

The announcement came after the credits appeared in the Mandalorian season 2 finale.

The Mandalorian Season 2 is now available on Disney + and the third season is scheduled to premiere in December 2021.

The twin suns in the sky instantly establish the location, the planet Tatooine. The camera rotates and Jabba the Hutt’s palace is revealed.

(Note that this scene probably takes place after Return of the Jedi, which is why Jabba the Hutt left long ago after Princess Leia took her revenge about 5-10 years earlier.)

Cuts to an interior shot of the palace and reveals that Jabba’s main administrator, Bib Fortuna, is now in charge.

Boba’s new partner, bounty hunter Fennec Shand, enters the palace, takes out Fortuna’s guards with a blaster, and rescues a slave before Boba Fett makes an entrance.

“Silly, I thought you were dead! I’m so glad to see you. I had heard a lot of rumors.” It was Bib Fortuna’s last words before Fett shot him dead and took his place on the throne.

The screen goes black and a title card appears that reads “The Boba Fett Book” along with the December 2021 release date.

Boba Fett’s return to the big screen was an unexpected but welcome twist.

Fett was thought to be dead after an encounter with Luke Skywalker and Han Solo in Return of the Jedi, falling into the dreaded Well of Sarlacc, where it was thought to have been “slowly digested over a thousand years”.

Sadly and coincidentally, the announcement of the new series comes just one day after Star Wars actor Jeremy Bullock, the original Boba Fett, died at age 75.

Bulloch played the original Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in the 1980s. He also had a brief camouflage as a captain in Revenge of the Sith.

Boba Fett is now played by New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison, who also played Jango Fett (Boba’s father), as well as all of the clones in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

What does this all mean for season 3 of The Mandalorian? Well, it’s not exactly clear.

The Boba Fett book is apparently a new show, possibly a miniseries, with the legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett.

We assume that season 3 of The Mandalorian will have to do with the mission to restore the planet Mandalor and without a doubt Din Djarin (The Mandalorian) will be forced to face Bo-Katan by the Darksaber.

I’m pretty sure we won’t see Luke Skywalker again (as much as I’d love to) – Disney can wash its hands of this incredible fan service.

Boba Fett’s book has been listed in the IMDB movie database as a television series starring Temuera Morrison (Boba Fett) and Ming-na Wen (Fennec Shand).

9News reached out to Disney for comment on The Boba Fett Book, who said they have nothing new to share at this time.

Who knows? It could turn out to be a real book (which would be incredibly disappointing).
