DP presidential candidate Lee apologizes for recordings containing invective – World News in Spanish

SEOUL, Jan. 18 (Yonhap) — Ruling party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung apologized Tuesday for recordings of his invective phone calls with family members.

“Although there are some difficult backgrounds to reveal, I once again sincerely apologize for stirring up trouble as a public person,” the Democratic Party’s Lee told reporters after a campaign event in western Seoul.

A lawyer, who has published a book criticizing Lee, released hours earlier 160-minute recordings of phone conversations between Lee and his older brother and sister-in-law on issues related to their mother, among others. The recordings show Lee using obscene language and invective towards them.

“This is a part of my past that I have to take responsibility for,” Lee said.

“I apologize to people because things like this will never happen again,” Lee said with teary eyes, adding that his mother and brother are no longer alive.
