The judicial fence harasses Donald Trump. The New York prosecutor, who since 2019 has been investigating the family group Trump organization, accuses the former president and two of his children of “fraudulent” practices in tax matters for which the justice system wants to question them.

In a court document of more than 100 pages and a statement released around midnight Tuesday, the attorney general of New York, Letitia James, said he “found significant evidence suggesting that Donald J. Trump and the Trump organization have falsely and fraudulently valued multiple assets.

He accuses them of having “incorrectly estimated the value of these assets before financial institutions to obtain economic benefits.”

James, who holds elected office and is a member of the Democratic Party, has been investigating for three years a possible fiscal fraud within the Trump Organization, the family group of the 45th president of U.S (2017-2021) and their children.

According to the document, he also suspects that the Trump Organization “fraudulently” inflated the value of some properties to request loans from banks and underestimated their value to the treasury to pay less taxes.

In late December and early January, the prosecutor summoned the former president and his son to testify under oath. Donal Jr and his daughter Ivanka. But the Trump family did not respond to the subpoenas and has resorted to all kinds of subterfuge to avoid the subpoenas and delay the investigation.

A spokesperson for Donald Trump, Liz Harrington, said Wednesday on Twitter that “(Letitia James’s) accusations are baseless and will be fought.” One of his lawyers Alina Habba, refutes in a statement transmitted to AFP the “tangible evidence” handled by the prosecutor.

“Threat against democracy”

The Trump family has been accusing the prosecutor for months of having “political” motivations in the instance and described her investigation as a “threat against our democracy.”

But according to excerpts from the court document filed with the New York Supreme Court, Donald Trump “had ultimate authority over a wide swath of Trump Organization conduct involving misstatements to counterparties, including financial institutions and the Internal Revenue Service.”

As for her daughter Ivanka, “through January 2017, Mrs. Trump was a primary contact for the Trump Organization’s largest lender, Deutsche Bank. In connection with this job, Mrs. Trump caused misleading financial statements to be submitted to Deutsche Bank and the federal government,” says the court document in the case.

Also, since “2017 Donald Trump Junior had authority on numerous documents containing misleading asset estimates,” in particular, a penthouse located on the Trump Tower, which in the statement was three times its actual size and whose price was inflated by 200 million dollars.

chess game

In this chess game with the Trumps, the prosecutor repeated on Tuesday night that the civil justice of New York “will not stop this investigation” and that “no one is above the law”.

Eric Trump, another son of the Republican billionaire and vice president of the Trump Organization, was questioned by the prosecution in October 2020.

Donald Trump is also the subject of other investigations in the United States.

In Washington, he is trying to prevent a legislative investigation into the Jan. 6 attack by his supporters on Capitol Hill, home to Congress. U.S in Washington, access White House records related to that day.

The Trump Organization is also being investigated by the Manhattan District Attorney for possible financial crimes and insurance fraud.

In July of last year, the Trump Organization and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, pleaded not guilty in a New York court to 15 felony counts of tax fraud and evasion.

His trial is scheduled to begin in the middle of this year.

Trump was also questioned on Oct. 18 for more than four hours in October as part of a lawsuit by a group of protesters who allege his security guards assaulted them six years ago.

He is also fighting to prevent years of his tax returns from being turned over to prosecutors.
