Monterrey, NL. The state of Nuevo León was the only federal entity in the northeastern part of the country that increased the rate of occupation or employment, as a percentage of the Economically Active Population (EAP) compared to the year-on-year comparison for the month of December, while Coahuila and Tamaulipas showed a slight decrease in the same period, according to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment of the Inegi.
The occupancy rate in New Lion it went from 96.2% in December 2020 to 97.1% of the PEA in the same month last year; while in Tamaulipas it fell from 96.9% to 96.7% and in Coahuila it fell from 95.1% to 94.5% of the PEA, in the same period, indicates the ENOE of the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (Inegi).
The Economically active population in the state, as of the second quarter of 2021, it amounted to 2 million 903.038 million people, according to data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare.
According to the Labor Overview of Coparmex Nuevo León, in December, employers in manufacturing, construction, as well as those in commerce and non-financial private services, expressed a monthly increase in their expectations of hiring personnel.
The indicator of expectations of employed personnel in the construction sector maintained the highest expectation of increase between January and December 2021, going from 50.50 to 52.00, while the manufacturing industry rebounded from 49.50 to 51.52 from the first month to December 2021, show the data of Coparmex Nuevo Leon, based on data from Inegi.
In turn, the commerce sector went from 48.0 in January of last year, to more than 54.0 in the month of December 2021; while the commerce and non-financial private services sector increased from 46.0 to 51.0 in the same period.
“Despite everything, it must be noted that in December, Covid-19 infections were at levels much lower than those currently registered in Mexico and Nuevo León. “Therefore, without a doubt, the labor market during this month could not generate the expected results.”
On the other hand, Nuevo León lowered the unemployment rate from 5.26% in the first nine months of 2020, to 3.87% in the third quarter of last year, still not reaching the pre-pandemic figure with 3.61 percent in the same period of 2019 , according to data from Inegi.
The states with the highest recovery and generation of formal employment in the country as of December 2021 compared to the same month of the previous year, were: New Lion with 86,370, followed by Jalisco (69,632); Mexico City (65,923); Baja California (60,180) and State of Mexico (56,966). At the national level, 846,416 jobs were recovered, according to data from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (Imss).
The activities with the greatest recovery in employment in Nuevo León were: Manufacturing (47,668), commerce (29,760) and transportation 11,841, and the sector that has not yet recovered is business services and entertainment with a decrease of -12,729 jobs in December of last year, compared to the same month of 2020.
