The liberalization in Spain will add this 2022 to a new competitor. Ilsaowned by the Italian Trenitalia and airline shareholders Our Air, is warming up engines and is preparing to be operational in the second half of the year. The company has closed an agreement with the personnel hiring multinational Randstad with the aim of completing its team of assistants on board. The task, which will be combined internally with the search for a person with a more specific profile, involves incorporating more than 200 professionals next May, according to the sources consulted by Information.
Ilsa’s new step means advancing in the construction of the team that will fight with Renfe and Ouigo (SNCF) on the Spanish roads. Initially, the company used the headhunter American Boyden, who was in charge of signing in 2019 the management team of the company he directs Victor Banares and Simone Gorini. The headhunting firm nabbed managers who came from companies like Telefónica (Borja González, head of operations) and Ferrovial (Olga Polo, head of the legal area). That team was also joined by signings that came from Vueling (Oscar Santamaria) and Amadeus (Rafael Gonzalez).
Now, Ilsa plans to incorporate more than 200 workers to join its ranks next May. The main profiles of the personnel to be evaluated Randstad they will be professionals on board the trains Frecciarossa 1000, although Ilsa, for her part, will complete the selection internally for those workers with a more specialized profile, as it has done with the train drivers.
The company announced that its goal was to end up with a workforce of approximately 2,600 people -adding direct and indirect jobs-, a significant figure, but small when compared to Renfe employees (15.000). For the office team, currently has vacant positions for technicians of inventory management systems and responsible for training development, among others.
With the unknown of what will happen to the search for an industrial partner, the company advances in its roadmap since last October it presented its commercial brand Iryo. The event, which was held in Madrid and later in Barcelona, brought together different representatives of the Ministry of Transport -attended Isabel Pardo de Vera, number two of the ministry- and the infrastructure manager Adif -Maria Luisa Dominguez, its president–, in a gesture that was interpreted as the go-ahead for the operator that will compete with Renfe in high speed.
Tests and offer
With regard to the schedule for the start of operations, Ilsa maintains that it will not be delayed. Unlike Ouigo, which conditioned its startup to the end of the alarm state, Ilsa will start before the end of 2022. The company will operate after being awarded package B of the liberalization -the A went to Renfe and the C to SNCF-, for which it bid for 70% of its capacity until it prevailed over other private firms such as Ecorail (65%) and Talgo (43%).
The commercial proposal remains to be defined, which will be known in the coming months. The company will not compete solely on price, as they do Ouigo The Avlo, Renfe’s low-cost brand, but will also seek a corporate client willing to pay a higher average ticket price. Holds conversations with companies to add large accounts to their clients with advantageous commercial agreements.
Before officially shooting, the company is still testing. In recent weeks, it has begun to test its trains in the Andalusian corridor thanks to the fact that they incorporate the signaling and safety system LZB. The operations map contemplates starting on the Madrid-Barcelona line and continuing later connecting with Valencia, Alicante, Zaragoza, Seville and Córdoba. The end goal: attract 50 million passengers in 10 years.
