The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has requested an urgent appearance at his own request in the Congress of Deputies “before the extraordinary situation that is developing around the crisis in Ukraine”. Foreign sources have explained to Europa Press that Albares has requested his appearance to explain the Spanish position in the Ukraine crisis, as well as the conclusions of the Council of Foreign Ministers that will take place on Monday in Brussels.

The same sources have explained that Tuesday is the only day that the minister can go to Congress since he is in Brussels on Monday and on Wednesday he will accompany the King to the inauguration of the new president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, and he won’t be back until Friday afternoon. The minister has defended in recent days that it is time for dialogue and diplomacy to facilitate the de-escalation with Russia. However, it has made it clear that the Spanish Government will be together with its partners and allies also for deterrence if necessary and is prepared for any eventuality.
