With regard to the poverty crisis in Africa, since the end of the last century, the concept of “Failed state”, understood as the inability of the state apparatus to attend to its citizens, not even in their primary needs.

Of course, the case of the African continent and countries like Haiti are extreme and have been the subject of global aid without much effectiveness beyond the basic assistance translated in some cases into foreign military support.

We are, however, before a Failed state too. A state apparatus that feeds on taxes and that has been completely incapable of closing the poverty gap. On the contrary, I have made it more serious.

The crisis we live today it relentlessly reminds us of the song by Juan Luis Guerra. Niagara by bike, where the doctors left, the alcohol was drunk and the sewing thread ended up embroidered on a tablecloth. This is just to refer to the absolute irresponsibility in which the health crisis has been handled.

But the list becomes more extensive. An absence of housing that leads people to crowd for a roof; a lack of care with the field that leads to non-market factors that make lemons unpurchasable. We respond with sarcasm and frustration.

But this writing is not about describing that Failed state that we live daily, enough has already been written about it and little attention has been paid to it by those who have the legal responsibility to do something.

That is why the models of conscious capitalism have come to intervene in the business model, to understand that it is not only about making money, but about doing it sustainably. A few years ago it was thought that business awareness consisted of creating foundations that supported different causes. That model has already changed radically, what we must do today is from the inside out.

The beginning of all conscientious action must begin with the collaborators, with the human capital that is within the company. It is not enough to pay a salary within the parameters of the minimum wage, not even what has been called a “decent wage”, we must go much, much further.

Companies, regardless of their size, must to work, assist, subsidize or at least give access to health systems. Therefore, it is not a matter of expensive and out of proportion models, today there are companies that do telemedicine in a very appropriate way and at prices infinitely lower than any individual medical consultation, almost that one consultation would serve to pay for the entire program for more than one person. Health care models must necessarily be extended to mental health, inside and outside the business environment, especially when the physical space has been distanced from the work as such.

But think about the employee health it falls short in two ways: the health axis is just one of the welfare and development axes, and it pretends that the worker is alone, when he belongs to a family nucleus and a community.

In this order of ideas, the efforts of the conscious company must be oriented not only to salary, physical and emotional health, but also to people development, to a transparent and accessible work culture, to education and even recreation. And this not only for the employees, but for their environment… development or awareness cannot be thought of when the problem, its structural cause and the environment are not addressed.

In no way is it intended that the State cease to demand what corresponds to it, on the contrary, that demand must be made more vigorously. However, it is up to the company, under the tutelage of the Human Capital areas secure that step; Far more important than profit sharing is welfare sharing. Deliver from within, grow people from within with a value proposal powerful and flexible, understanding that we can no longer see supports as elements of benefit or gift but as genuine contributions necessary for society within the company.

This practice will not only help to be a better society, to eliminate causes that could not be eliminated in this government, but it will also be the main differentiating factor of the company of tomorrow: an organization of people working for people. We take care of the employee as much as we take care of the customer.

Let us accept that we are facing a Failed state, and in that sense, without resignation, to go out and do what we have to do when we have the privilege of knowledge, hierarchy and capital.
