(LEAD) Sampyo Industry regional office raided in connection with Yangju landslide – World News in English

SEOUL, Jan. 31 (Yonhap) — Investigators raided a regional office of Sampyo Industry Monday in connection with a recent quarry accident that left two workers dead and one missing.

Officials from the Ministry of Employment and Labor raided the field office and other suppliers of Sampyo Industry in Yangju, north of Seoul. Sampyo is a local manufacturer of building materials including remicon and aggregates

The ministry will investigate whether the company failed to carry out security checks or monitor the workplace.

Reportedly, the ministry will also soon raid the headquarters of Sampyo Industry located in Seoul.

On Saturday there was a landslide on the slope of a quarry while three workers were making holes for demolition work.

Two were found dead, but one worker is still missing. Rescue operations are underway to find the remaining buried worker.
