This Monday, the journalist Robert Toledo was killed by armed individuals in the municipality of Zitácuaro, Michoacán, confirmed the portal Monitor Michoacan, medium for which Toledo worked.

The first reports indicate that Toledo, 55, was attacked shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Monday by three armed individuals outside the offices of Monitor Michoacan, being seriously wounded by a bullet and losing his life on the way to a hospital.

In addition, Armando Linares, director of Monitor Michoacan, announced through a video on social networks that the journalist had already received death threats, for which the federal government provided him with protection.

“We just want to make known what we said a few days ago, and that we have been dragging for months, for weeks, the team of Monitor Michoacan has been suffering a series of death threats, today, finally these threats were carried out and today one of our members of our team was murdered, a few minutes ago they attempted against his life, he lost his life a few minutes ago, That’s the way things are,” said Armando Linares López.

The director of the portal explained that Toledo, who has collaborated in this medium for three years, was outside the offices when three subjects shot him and immediately fled.

“One of our comrades lost his life at the hands of three people who came and shot him in a mean and cowardly manner; we are not armed and we do not carry weapons, our only defense is a pen, a pencil and a notebook. There are names and we know where all this comes from,” he added.

On his Twitter account, the general coordinator of Social Communication of the Presidency of the Republic, Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, stated that the federal government condemned the murder of the journalist.

“The @GobiernoMX condemns the murder of journalist Roberto Toledo from the portal Monitor Michoacan. We will work together with the state and municipal government to clarify the case; We will not allow impunity. Let’s defend freedom of expression and the right to information,” wrote Ramírez Cuevas.



Robert Toledo is the fourth communicator killed during the first month of 2021. The first, José Luis Gamboa he was assassinated in the port of Veracruz; followed by margarito martinez Y Lourdes Maldonado, attacked in Tijuana, Baja California.
