Leading by example – The Australian Jewish News

AJAX Junior Football Club is kicking off the footy season with local community cafe and registered charity All Things Equal, who will be running their canteen this season at Princes Park Caulfield.

All Things Equal is a Melbourne café that employs young people with disability providing purposeful employment in a mainstream work environment.

Since opening, the café has successfully employed 14 people with disability, who have weekly paid shifts at the Carlisle Street coffee shop.

General manager of All Things Equal Bianca Stern told The AJN, “All Things Equal is extremely excited to be collaborating with AJAX JFC. We feel collaboration and creativity is the key towards greatness in the Jewish community. For All Things Equal, this opportunity will allow our employees with disability to be both challenged and thrive in a new, exciting workplace environment.”

Last Sunday was the All Things Equal canteen opening day, with the 20 kilograms of kosher sausages selling out by 1pm, a testament to the grill master and the friendly staff.

The opportunity put forth by AJAX JFC has allowed All Things Equal to hire three more employees with disability. All Things Equal employee Adam Sieff who was working on the day said, “It was a great morning!”

AJAX JFC secretary Romy Katz told The AJN, “AJAX Junior Football Club is thrilled to be collaborating with All Things Equal in the canteen. At AJAX we value inclusion and are proud to be leading by example and having our junior footballers see first hand the importance of building a strong inclusive Jewish community.”

Stern added, “We can’t wait for the canteen to show our community that people with disability are ready, willing and are absolutely capable of working and contributing.

“All Things Equal’s dream is for other community organisations to have greater diversity in their workplaces, and we are delighted to see AJAX JFC leading by example!”
