A modern-day Exodus – The Australian Jewish News

Every year, Jews celebrate the festival of Pesach to commemorate the liberation of the children of Israel, as commanded by God in Exodus.

Pesach teaches us not to take our freedom for granted. This year, people will sit down to sedarim all across the world. Sadly, for the Jews of Ukraine, this won’t be possible as they hunker down in bunkers praying that their area won’t be the next to be bombed by the Russians.

As we read in the Haggadah: b’chol dor v’dor, in every generation evil rises up to harm us.

This Pesach, each one of us can help those in desperate circumstances. This Pesach, each one of us can help Jewish refugees reach the Promised Land – the state of Israel –and bring them to freedom.

Keren Hayesod – UIA is the official fundraising arm of the state of Israel. UIA Australia in partnership with the global Jewish community works to further the national priorities of the State of Israel and Israeli society, with special emphasis on advancing weaker communities, nurturing disadvantaged and marginalised youth, facilitating aliyah, implementing rescue operations, and connecting Diaspora Jews to Israel and Jewish life.

Jews have always been assisted and brought to Israel in the wake of economic collapse, the escalation of antisemitism and war.

Israel’s top priorities are our priorities. In recent years, KH-UIA has facilitated Jewish Agency rescue operations and aliyah from the former Soviet Union, Ethiopia, Yemen, Syria, Cuba, Iran and now, Ukraine.

You can save lives this Pesach by supporting our efforts to rescue our brothers and sisters from war.

Please call the UIA office on 9272 5533 (Victoria) or 9361 4273 (NSW) or donate directly
