New gene therapy helps treat hearing loss

Around 500 million people in the world have hearing loss and 1 in 200 children are born with a hearing impairment. About 50% of these cases are caused by a genetic mutation.

Australian Friends of Tel Aviv University invites you to hear Prof. Karen Avraham talk about genomic approaches in personalised medicine, as well as her ground-breaking research for an innovative treatment for deafness, based on the delivery of genetic material into the cells of the inner ear that “replaces” the genetic defect and enables the cells to continue functioning normally.
