A social media storm has erupted after a South African cricket star was blatantly rejected despite his IPL hitting heroics.
South African cricket legend Dale Steyn was ignited with a blatant snub on social media in the wake of the Indian Premier League final.
The Chennai Super Kings defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs on Saturday (AEDT) to win the T20 tournament in dominant fashion.

South African veteran Faf du Plessis was named Man of the Match after he hit 89 runs and 59 balls for the Super Kings when they set up an impressive 192 total, which proved too much for KKR to chase after.
Du Plessis had a tournament to remember, scoring 633 runs with a strike rate of 138.20, the second-most outs of any batter in the IPL.
So it was surprising when Cricket South Africa’s social media accounts completely ignored du Plessis in a post on Twitter and Instagram, instead of congratulating South African pacemaker Lungi Ngidi, who was part of the Chennai team but wasn’t even a part. of the team that played in the IPL final.
The CSA post did not refer to du Plessis and did not mention Imran Tahir, another South African who was part of the Chennai team.
The post was removed and republished to acknowledge du Plessis, but not before drawing strong criticism from former South African hitter and spearhead Dale Steyn.
On Instagram, du Plessis replied to the original post: “@cricketsouthafrica really ???”
Steyn went further and called his former teammate’s snub as “disgusting.”
“Who manages this account?” Steyn commented on the post.
“Last time I checked that Faf is not even retired, Iman is not retired, these two guys have given years of service to CSA and they are not worth mentioning. Disgusting.”
Steyn took to Twitter to vent her anger at CSA, which also disabled comments on the original post.
“CSA opening a can of worms for themselves with their Twitter and Instagram,” he said.
“Whoever is running those accounts needs to speak up too.
“CSA has now blocked the comment section.
Here are some tips. Do the right thing. Remove the post and add all the men involved, save yourself the embarrassment and ridicule. “
Cricket South Africa removed the post and republished it with the caption: “Congratulations to all South Africans who competed and claimed victory in the 2021 IPL Final with Chennai Super Kings. In particular, Faf du Plessis, who did a Man of the Match performance. “
It seems that the reason CSA did not recognize du Plessis and Tahir’s efforts was because only Ngidi is part of the South African team for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Du Plessis retired from test cricket in February, but still wanted to play for his country in T20, with World Cups to be held this year and in 2022.
Steyn said it was disconcerting that the hitter was not chosen from the Proteas squad despite his sensational form in the IPL.
“You have to feel a bit for Faf,” she told # T20TimeOut.
“I feel a bit for Faf at the moment, because he is in the country where a T20 World Cup is about to happen.
“He just scored almost 90 in an IPL final. And he’ll be on the next plane back to Cape Town in two days.
“I don’t know. I can’t even talk about it. It blows my mind.”
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also called Du Plessis’s omission from the World Cup “ridiculous”.
