Victoria blocks all of New South Wales, WA reimposes a strict border with Victoria


State borders are being locked in Australia as the New South Wales COVID-19 cluster continues to expand.

Victoria will close its border to New south Wales from 11:59 pm on January 1 after the Victorian health authorities detected two new cases today.

Any Victorian currently in the New South Wales Green Zone will have until tomorrow night to go home.

This does not include Victorians in the Blue Mountains City Council and Wollongong City Council local government areas, who must apply for a new permit and arrive by 11:59 p.m. tonight, the government said.

Any Victorian, regardless of their place of arrival in New South Wales, will need to be tested and then quarantined for 14 days after 11:59 p.m. tomorrow.

Acting Premier Jacinta Allan said that two new cases detected in Victoria today are close contacts of existing positive cases and are currently under quarantine.

The number of close contacts in quarantine is now more than 70.

Victoria recorded five new community infections today after three yesterday.

WA puts hard border with Victoria

The WA border will be closed to Victorians beginning at 12:01 am on January 1.

Victoria has been declared ‘medium risk’ in light of her eight recent cases.

Victorians arriving in WA on or after December 21 will need to be tested and isolated.

South Australia has a strict border with New South Wales

Prime Minister Steven Marshall made the announcement this morning.

From midnight to 12:01 a.m. on January 1, travelers from New South Wales will not be allowed to enter South Australia, with few exceptions.

Border passes will continue to be required and 14-day self-isolation will apply.

Northern Territory declares access point to Sydney

NT Health Minister Natasha Fyles said that from midnight tonight, NT will declare the greater Sydney area as a COVID-19 hotspot.

Anyone arriving at the NT from the greater Sydney area since midnight tonight will enter mandatory quarantine.
